Watch Our Review

This is one of my new guilty pleasures. I do a lot of fasting and I’m on a ketogenic diet, so I’m always hunting for something sweet that fits within my dietary needs, and these Legendary Foods high protein donuts landed right in that lane. Donuts, of all things. One gram of sugar, 22 grams of protein. I grabbed the blueberry, and I’m going to tell you, it’s actually pretty dang good. That’s why I’m doing the review.

Quick Verdict

One gram of sugar, 22 grams of protein, and a blueberry glazed donut I actually want to eat. It’s a gooey, chewy pantry stash for the moments I need something sweet on keto, not a fresh-from-the-shop donut and not an everyday eater.

Buy if you:

  • Do a lot of fasting or run a ketogenic diet and want something sweet that fits your macros
  • Need a grab-one-when-you-need-it treat for a midnight-snack craving
  • Want 22g of protein bundled into a dessert instead of a bar
  • Like variety (chocolate, pink sprinkle, blueberry, vanilla glaze, cinnamon)

Donuts. Of All Things. On Keto.

Most low-sugar sweets taste like what they’re missing. The blueberry glazed doesn’t, which is the only reason it’s still in my pantry three restocks later instead of being a one-time curiosity.

The Macros Are the Whole Point

The numbers are why this fits my diet: 22g protein, 1g sugar, 7g fat. They extract the sugar and lean on erythritol for the sweetening power, about 13 grams of it per serving. That’s really where the sweetness is coming from on this particular stack.

The box comes with eight individually wrapped packets, two donuts each, sixteen total. They run smaller than a standard shop donut, which is the obvious trade-off for hitting 22g protein and 1g sugar. Five flavors: chocolate, pink sprinkle, blueberry, vanilla glaze, and cinnamon.

The Blueberry Tastes Better Than It Should

Straight out of the wrapper the blueberry glazed is legitimately good. Look at the glazing on top of these donuts. They’ve done a phenomenal job with the presentation, and you get that sugary-looking glaze right across the top. When I popped one open you can see the consistency inside. Dense, but not dry.

I do love it because it’s extremely low in sugar and it still scratches the sweet-tooth itch. When I really need something, this is really what I go to. It’s not a fresh donut you pull out of the oven at a donut shop. It’s more of a gooey, chewy donut, and once I made peace with that, I stopped wanting the other kind.

The Gooey Texture, and the 10-Second Fix

The one thing I’d flag: cold from the wrapper, the texture is chewy and a little gooey. Not bad, just not the light, airy donut your brain is expecting when it sees glaze. If that catches you off guard, that’s the friction here.

Pro tip that fixed it for me: pop one in the microwave for about 8 to 10 seconds. That just about does it. It warms up into more of that soft, fresh donut consistency you’re used to from a real bakery donut. I also noticed they don’t extend the glaze all the way down to the bottom, so the top carries most of the sweetness. Worth knowing before you bite in.

Who These Donuts Are For

The target buyer is narrow: you’re on keto or fasting, you miss dessert specifically, and a protein bar isn’t scratching that itch. If that’s you, the math works, 22g protein and 1g sugar in something that actually looks and tastes like a glazed donut. If you just want a convenient protein hit and don’t care about the dessert experience, save your money and grab a bar.

It’s also handy that each pack is individually wrapped with two donuts. That makes portioning simple and travel-friendly. Keep in mind it’s sweetened with erythritol, so I don’t want to eat too much of it in one sitting.

Donut vs. a Protein Bar

If you’re cross-shopping this against a regular protein bar, the pitch is the same 22g of protein in a form that feels like a treat instead of a chore. A bar is denser and usually cheaper per serving, and it won’t need a microwave to hit its best texture.

But a bar never feels like dessert. This does. For the nights I want to feel like I’m cheating without cheating, the donut wins. If you just want fuel and don’t care about the experience, a bar is the more practical pick.

My Advice Before You Order

Warm it before you judge it. Eating one cold and expecting a fresh bakery donut is the fastest way to be disappointed. Give it those 8 to 10 seconds in the microwave first, then decide.

Treat it like an occasional eater, not a staple, because of the erythritol load. And if you’re unsure on flavor, blueberry is a safe first pick. It’s the one I tried and the one that convinced me to keep these on hand.

Pros

  • 22g protein and only 1g sugar per serving, fits a ketogenic diet
  • Blueberry glazed tastes actually pretty dang good
  • Individually wrapped, two donuts per pack, easy to grab and go
  • Real variety of flavors: chocolate, pink sprinkle, blueberry, vanilla glaze, cinnamon
  • Presentation and glazing are done phenomenally well

Cons

  • Cold texture is gooey and chewy, not a light fresh donut (needs a microwave fix)
  • Sweetened with about 13g erythritol, so not one to eat all day
  • Glaze doesn’t extend all the way to the bottom
  • Smaller-size donuts

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I store them and how long do they keep?

Keep them in the pantry in their sealed individual packets until you’re ready to eat. They’re fully cooked and shelf-ready straight from the wrapper. I keep mine stocked as a just-in-case snack rather than something that has to be eaten right away.

Are these gluten-free?

Yes, Legendary Foods lists these high protein donuts as gluten-free. They’re aimed at keto, low-carb, and diabetic-friendly eaters. If you have a severe allergy, always double-check the current packaging for the full allergen statement.

Will the erythritol cause stomach issues?

It can if you overdo it. There’s about 13g of erythritol per serving doing the sweetening, and sugar alcohols can upset some stomachs in larger amounts. That’s exactly why I treat these as an occasional eater and don’t eat too many in one sitting.

Can I eat these while intermittent fasting?

They’re a food, so eating one breaks a fast. I use them during my eating window as the sweet thing that fits my macros, not as something to consume while fasting. The 22g protein makes them a decent choice to break a fast with something satisfying.

Do they need to be refrigerated?

No, they’re ready to eat straight from the wrapper and I keep mine in the pantry. If you prefer a warmer, softer bite, a quick 8 to 10 seconds in the microwave does the trick.

How many donuts come in a box?

The box I have holds eight individually packaged packets, and each packet contains two donuts. So one box gives you sixteen donuts total. Brand listings also offer a 4-pack option.

Which flavor should I try first?

Blueberry is my pick, since it’s the one I tested and it won me over. There’s also chocolate, pink sprinkle, vanilla glaze, and cinnamon if you want to branch out. All share the same macro profile.

Are they good for diabetics?

They’re marketed as diabetic-friendly thanks to the 1g sugar and erythritol sweetening, which is low glycemic. That said, everyone’s blood sugar responds differently, so check with your own doctor before making them a regular part of your routine.

Loses ground on texture and value: cold from the wrapper it’s gooey and chewy, and it needs a microwave to reach its best. Skip it if you want a light fresh bakery donut, because that’s not what this is. Ditch the erythritol aftertaste tolerance question and warm it up, and for a 1g-sugar, 22g-protein treat on keto, it holds up well.
